Good to know about Swedish

Swedish and English are both Germanic languages, so many everyday words are close: hus (house), hand (hand), bok (book), dricka (to drink).

Nouns are either en words or ett words: en bok (a book), ett hus (a house). The definite article is added to the end of the word: boken (the book), huset (the house).

Swedish has three extra vowels at the end of the alphabet: å, ä and ö. They are letters of their own, not a and o with accents.

Verbs do not change with the person: jag talar, du talar, vi talar (I speak, you speak, we speak).

The numbers 13 to 19 end in -ton and the tens in -tio: sexton is 16 and sextio is 60.
