How the numbers work
11 to 16 end in -dici, which means ten. The start is a shorter form of the number: tredici is 3 + 10 = 13. The same goes for undici, dodici, quattordici, quindici and sedici.
From 17 the parts swap places, and the ten comes first: diciassette is 10 + 7 = 17. The same goes for diciotto (18) and diciannove (19).
20 is venti.
